A non-commercial organization consisting of seven or more individuals who come together for literary, scientific, charitable, or other purposes listed under Section 20 of the Society Registration Act, 1860, is eligible for society registration. They must subscribe their names to a Memorandum of Association and submit it for registration.

Before applying, existing members must agree on the name of the society, followed by the finalization of the Memorandum of Association, which outlines the society’s rules and regulations.

When choosing a name, it must comply with the Society Act of 1860. The proposed name cannot be identical or similar to any already registered society, or it will be rejected. Additionally, it must adhere to the guidelines set by the Central and State Governments and comply with the provisions of the Emblems and Names Act of 1950. The name should not contain any phrases or words that could be considered offensive to any community or government entity.
