As per GST law, every individual or entity, including companies and LLPs, must register for GST when their total turnover exceeds the threshold limits. For suppliers of goods, the exemption limit is Rs. 40 lakhs, except in certain states (Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, Telangana, Puducherry, Tripura, and Uttarakhand), where the limit is Rs. 20 lakhs as of April 1, 2019.
The following taxpayers are exempt from GST registration:
Taxpayers may also opt for multiple registrations within a state or union territory for various business locations in the same region. E-commerce operators required to collect tax at source must register compulsorily.
During the cancellation process, registration may be provisionally suspended to relieve taxpayers from continuous compliance. The government has also allowed revocation of GST registrations canceled before March 31, 2019, with applications for revocation permitted until July 22, 2019.
When GST registration becomes mandatory, several scenarios require compliance. Let’s look at a few specific cases where GST registration is compulsory, even if your turnover is as low as Re. 1:
